Chapel Hill Biking and Jogging Trails: Battle Branch Trail
On Chapel Hill’s Greenways site, you will notice that The Bolin Creek Trail links to The Battle Branch Trail. Each span 1.5 miles- so 3 miles 1 way, 6 miles round trip.
Before you head out – remember that while The Bolin Creek Trail is paved and is well maintained, the Battle Branch Trail is rugged, natural, and unpaved.
That said, it’s beautiful! Nicely canopied, with lots of interesting terrain and stair steps built into the steeper climbs.
In the winter, the trees are sparse, so neighboring houses were clearly visible on part of the path, though it doesn’t detracted much from the “out in the wilderness” feel of Battle Branch Trail.
Bicycle use on the University-owned section of the trail is allowed only on the trails that follow the cleared OWASA easement. All other trails within Battle Park are pedestrian only. Please check the University maps before bicycling on their trails.
Battle Branch Trail is located near great neighborhoods in Chapel Hill! See information about Windsor Park, and homes we have available in Chapel Hill.
Chapel Hill Bike and Jogging Trail: Bolin Creek Trail
The trail starts at the Community Center where there’s a large playground, a rose garden, and some cool outdoor art. I think the playground aspect makes this trail especially great for families with young children. The main trail is paved and winds through 1.5 miles of woods, ending on Airport Rd. near the police station.
There is a detour you can take that leads you to UNC’s campus. There’s a nice little creek that runs alongside the trail in certain parts and all diverging paths are well-marked. Shortly after the trail begins. It has access to Franklin Hills Neighborhood.
The trails goes for 1.5 miles and connects the Community Center Park and the Battle Branch Trail. It is fairly wide in parts and goes through both open meadow areas and wooded areas (that can stay damp after rain).
