This is the first of a mini video series on How To Taxidermy A Bird, for beginners. In each video I will concentrate on a different step. In this video I’m showing you how to seperate the secondary flight feathers from the bone so you can clean away the flesh thats hiding down there. This is an easy step to forget if you’re not 100% on how to taxidermy a bird as its a tricky area to get to. On larger birds you can also make a slit under the wing to make it easier to remove the muscle.
Please note: I’m not wearing gloves in this video as it was hindering the quality of the tutorial, making the subject areas a little unclear. I do recommend you wear gloves.

How do i do the feet? They're detached. The rest of the hawk was run over.. Is there a dry method? I was thinking of a jar of salt :/

I usually get small birds from my cats, and I've never quite been able to clean the wings because of how small the birds are, so I pack it with borax and let it dry out in a salt box for a month or two

Thumbnail has super big bubbly words saying ''how to taxidermy a bird''. Then in description is ''Cleaning wings''. I visited to see the ''cleaning wings'' part. Where to insert my blade to best remove flesh and muscle. I did not find that here. I found how to peel away skin from bone, already knowing how. Video good with right, non-misleading description. Still, thank you for posting.

*once you have the bird skinned
*disconnect the skin from the bone

Very informative thank you. I recently rescued 4 taxidermy birds from a dusty attic. Can you suggest any vids for me to watch on how to clean and repair them. I am fairly new to this.
